Pictorial Warnings on all Tobacco Products in Guernsey and Jersey
03/01/2008
Details on how to participate in the consultation exercise on pictorial warnings on all tobacco products in Guernsey and Jersey
Later this year, Guernsey and Jersey are introducing legislation to place pictorial health warnings on all tobacco products. This will bring both islands in line with the UK and other countries round the world which are all taking the lead in tobacco control.
The new Guernsey Order will be made under the existing Tobacco Advertising (Guernsey) Law 1997 and will require that picture warnings, chosen from the European Commission picture warning library, will be on all tobacco products. They will appear on the back of the cigarette packets and be rotated regularly.
A consultation exercise regarding the choice of which pictures to use is now in progress. The details of how you can participate can be found on www.gov.je/health until 28th February. The website will supply background information about the policy and also give you the opportunity to participate in the choice of the pictures, the enforcement procedures and the timescale for implementation. You are invited to take part in this consultation by logging on to the website.
